The Early Support training is designed to support the improvement of services for disabled children and children with additional needs and their families. It aims to enable practitioners and managers, parents and carers, to develop and improve their understanding of how Early Support principles, approaches and materials help them to provide better support for disabled children and children with additional needs.
The Early Support training:-
- Offers parents and carers and other family members the opportunity to further develop their skills and understanding about the new world that they and their child are entiering, so that they are better able to take control of their lives and develop a positive partnership with the practitioners supporting them.
- Offers local authorities, health services and the voluntary sector the opportunity to fulfil Welsh Assembly Government expectations that they will use Early Support in designing, planning and implementing their services for families.
- Offers practitioners and managers the chance to reflect on the way that they work with parents and with each other. It also helps them to develop understanding and skills that will help them to improve the services they provide to disabled children and children with additional needs and their families.
The training is based on a fundamental commitment to put families first, working in partnership with them, developing more joined-up services so that disabled children and children with additional needs can be given a flying start in life.
